Book Reading.....

About a week ago I got this idea about reading a book.  I picked up a random book from a bookshelf and I read it. The book I chose is called Lucky Lacy. There has also been made a movie after that story. The film featured Liza Minelli, Burt Reynolds and Gene Hackman. The story is about this young widow in the 30's who teams up with two men and they start running booze togher.  There was Prohibition in the United States at that time and therefore they were ileagally running booze to the US. They sail the coast of west America on a sailboat and get into lots and lots of troubles. They had one successfull run and got a lot of money. The two men wanted to just make that it. But the lady drags them into the booze business.  So they go into serious business and get wealthy.  During these trips of theirs the two men fall madly in love with the lady and they both become her boyfriend at the same time.  But the happiness is shortlived.  Their competition seriously injures both the men so they have to run away over to Tijuana to nightclub that the lady's late husband had owned.  She cares for them there and brings them back to health and then they go again out on the sea with an army of other booze runner, their mission was to kill the competion that had injured the two men and they do get rid of him.  Again their success was very shortlived, because when they were comming to US shore with lots of booze the coas guard caught them and they two men lost their lives. so the lady was just all alone. That was the end of the book but we get to see into the lady's future.  She married a rich dull man and had a son, you can guess if the son was a son of the rich man or a son of either of her boyfriends.  I choose the second option.  I thought this was a very good book.  A little odd but good and fun.  I both laughed and cired while reading it.

Anyhow next on the agenda....Dolly Parton.... I'm getting her autobiography tomorrow. Finally. I have been waiting for it for yonks.  I'm so excited. A man from the post office came by today with it but I didn't have enough money for the toll expences that moment so I will got and get tomorrow. I cannot wait.  I'm going to run out tomorrow morning as soon as the post office opens.....Big Smile  Big Smile

.....and off I go

Wow, it's been a log time since I wrote here the last time. I have been busy vacationing.  My mom's friend and her kids have been with us for the past week or so, but they left yesterday.  Last week we went on a baot trip.  It was yacht with sails.  So maybe it was more of a sailing outing than a boat trip..... We went to little island also in the Kyklades called Skinoussa.  Sailing to the island took 3 hours, the weather was really good, it was hot on the land(  ca. 42-45°C) so it was really nice to be out on the ocean.  I got to try to stear the boat, and that's what I am doing in that picture down there.  Stearing is not as fun as you'd think, but it is fun to be able to say that you have steared a yacht, 'cause lets face it not everybody have done so.

Today is my last whole day on Naxos.  Tomorrow I will have a manicure and a pedicure and then sail off to Crete.  I will only be one whole day in Crete, but I am sure it will be a great day... the hotel we are going to stay at is a luxury hotel.  We were not looking for a luxury hotel but we got one.  We had talked to the man at the travel agency here and asked him to help us find a hotel in Crete and he was more that willing to help us with that.  We had set him a price limit and he stayed within that. ......How did we get a luxury hotel?..... well he got us a big fat discount.  I am looking forwards to going to Crete.

In 3 days on Wednesday I will go back home to Iceland, so this is my last Naxian blog.  But I think it will be good to be back home...be in the comfort of your own home and your stuff.  I miss the sofa.... and my computer.....I have realized how important it is to me..... I wonder if that is a good thing or not.  Well I can live without it and use computers at internet caffeés, but there are programs on my computer that I am ridiculously attatched to, like Photoshop, I have been missing that a lot.  I have taken lots and lots of pictures. I've had to empty the card in my camera a few times. But I can't load the picturers anywhere on the net easily because they are too big and that is why I want my Photoshop, it can fix that problem....  But anyhow... I will be able to photoshop and compute in my own computer soon. I am excited about going back home but I am also really sad about having to leave Naxos.... but I am hoping to come here again someday.  I have even been thinking about hurrying up and learn Greek so I can come here next summer and work here for the summer. The man at the travel agency wants me to come here and be a guide for tourists. But I am not so sure, it would surely be fun but guiding is a difficult job....But I'll see....

Kastro.....

Today is Saturday and the weather is really nice. I went with my mom to a castle today.  A part of the Naxox town is very old, from about 1200. I went to that part of town today and it was very beautiful.  There is a lot of tiny little streets and you can very easily get lost.  It's like a maze.  The town is located in a very big hill or a small mountain, it depends on how you look at it.  So there is a lot of steps. And when I say a lot I mean A LOT.  Anyhow, we walked up a lot of steps in the old town, but at the top there is the castle... It's not really a castle, it's more of a fort.  The castle is called Kastro.... I think the English word castle comes from the Greek word kastro.  The root is kast in them both....a little de-tour here.  Inside the castle there are a lot of little houses and a big church, everything is ofcourse in white except Kastro which is kind of brown. By the gate into Kastro there is the Venitian museum.  I went to look at that, costed me 5 Euros. An Italian family moved into that house in 1203-1207 in the Venitian invation in Greece.  The family was of French origin and their name was De La Roche but later they changed their name into Della Rocca(italian). The Della Rocca family ruled in Naxos and where really rich. In the museum you can see how they lived. You can see their beds and clothes that they could have worn and the lady's mirror on her dressing table, the childs bed and clothes.  You can also see the misters study/office, on his desk they had is journal, he was writing his observations in it in French, and by the book there were his glasses. It looks like he just wrote in is journal and took his glasses of and went away. So amazing, you could also see their dining room and how the table was set.  It was a set like a true Italian feast, I think. It was all really pretty and nice.  It is just so amazing to be in such an old place.

honking the horn....

Now it is the end of my 3rd day in Naxos. I went today with my mom on drive around the whole island, which is not big.  We saw a Kouros, that is an old statue that was made 6000 years b.C. but was never finished.  So it has just been lieing there on the ground unfinished for 8000 years.  It is amazing.  Also today in our drive we visited a lot of small mountain villages. Those willages have no roads that cars can be on. The only transportation there that is not your own feet is donkey... But I just walked. And on our walk through a very small street, I saw a very little baby cat. It was so cute that I just had to pet it a bit and take a picture of it, and the kittens owner came out of her house and gave the cat some food.  The cat's owner is an old little woman that just smiled at me..... One other thing I've noticed here, in the traffic....Honking!!!  The horn is the most important part of the cars here... They are always beeping.  They beep everytime that they make a turn or just whatever it is very strange.  And people also just park whereever they feel like it...In the middle of a roundabout or in the middle of a small oneway street.... Very strange!

Greece

It's now the end of my first day in Greece.  Today has been very good and fun.  My mom took me shopping for some new clothes. Altough I am a quite small size(xs-s) back at home I'm a big size here(xl-xxl)Angry.  But it was all nice.  My dream of a cowboy hat is comming true.  I am getting a really cool hat.  It is amazing that it took me 2 days to travel from Iceland to Greece.  I had a lot of delays  2 hour delay in Iceland for my flight to Copenhagen, that was on Saturday, and then on Sunday I had almost a 4 hour delay in Copenhagen for my flight to Athens. And I just made to the harbour in Athens to catch the ferry to Naxos.  So I did a lot of waiting this weekend and I was truely dying from boredome in the airports. The ferry trip from Athens to Naxos was 6 hours so I was exhausted last night.  But I'm all fine now.  Naxian people are very nice and friendly.  The Greek people speak Greek and when they speak I understand nothing, absalutely nothing at all.  And sometimes when they speak english I understand almost nothing. It is so weird.... I will post more later.  And maybe I'll post some pictures

A girl and Muses

Here's a new tale of that girl, Ulla.  Now as you may know, Ulla enjoys writing stories. She had been working on a new story but one day she could not write anymore. That was because her Muse wasn't kissing her any longer.  So for few weeks Ulla didn't write anything at all and was really frustrated because she really wanted to write.  But one evening in May Ulla talked to her friend Krissi. Ulla and Krissi were talking about writing and Ulla told Krissi about her Muse that was no longer doing anything for her.  After some talking about why Ulla's Muse didn't kiss her anymore, the girls figured that the Muse was either tired or had got a boyfriend that did get more attention.  After some more talking Krissi offered to ask her Muse to help Ulla with her writing.  Krissi's Muse was okey with that and the Muse started to talk to Ulla and her Muse. Krissi's Muse also gave Ulla a little hug. That little hug helped Ulla a lot, she got inspiration back and started to write again, Now Ulla's Muse is kissing her again thanks to Krissi's kindness to let Ulla talk to her Muse. Ulla is now a happy girl with her Muse.

Frusteration!!!

I'm frusterated. I was watching America's Next Top Model before. There was this woman who I thought looked just normal,  But she was called plus size. Now I think that's just not right. She was not fat, she wasn't skinny either.  I think it is so negative term "plus size" . I know I could be catagorized as plus size, I'm thin, but not skinny, but I'm not too fat either.  I'm just a real normal woman. And real women do have lines and curves. They have hips and thighs and all that. Although it varies a lot of course.  It just frusterates me so much that normal women are made not as valid in fashion world. I'm not just talking about a model show now, but fashion clothes shops do not have clothes that fit the normal women. It's like the socciety is telling us that if you are not skinny you are not good enough or beautiful enough to wear fashion clothes. It is just off! It's wrong.

report from Warmland

oof poof what a hot day. I started the day with a quick study for the french exam I had to day and then I headed to the french exam. Now after the exam  I went home for a bit,, but then i got so restless in all the heat that is in here.  Since I had a quite long walk around the whole neighbourhood, in the sun and heat. I think it's about 15-20°C here today and it's so hot.  I saw some people outside wearing thick winter coats, scarfs and winter hats. Now what's with that? Can the people really be that cold?  It made me kind of sick looking at these people, especially since I was wearing a t-shirt and was hot. I don't understand it.  But appearently this heat is supposed to last all this week. I've very happy about that. Now I'm going to watch a movie. Watching a movie where english is spoken counts as studying for an english exam, if you don't have the subtitles on. Dosen't it? I think so.

A little tale about a little girl

Once upon a time there was a girl called Ulla. She had a friend named Melanie, but Ulla usually called her Melli because Melli has two "L" just like in Ulla. One fine day Ulla wanted to get an account on Blogrive and so she got one. But when Ulla had got it, she didn't know how to do things in it and she didn't understand how she was supposed to get it to work. As Ulla was scratching and racking her brain over her new blog, Melli stepped out and offered to help Ulla. So on a Friday afternoon Melli talked Ulla through the blogdrive settings over msn and after a while and some explaining Ulla finally got it. She thanked Melli for being so kind to help her. And ever since Ulla has been playing around with her blog. She made a new banner to be at the top and she wrote a whole lot of information about herself in side panel and then she wrote her first real blog post on her new blog site. And Ulla lived for a very long time being happy and greatful.
